Slow is smooth

...and smooth is fast

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast

Sometimes we’re in a hurry to get places. Sometimes that’s a good thing.

And sometimes it’s not.

It’s important that there is progression in your career or personal development. It’s important to have an idea of where you want to be.

That goal doesn’t necessarily have to be 10 years down the track. That might be too hard to imagine, especially early in your career when experience is limited.

What’s important is being able to critically appraise where you’re at and developing some habits that help you move forward and gain knowledge, experience and confidence. Important; yes. Essential; definately!

Early on, there is a risk in moving too slow and avoiding challenging situations within your scope can hamper your development.

As your confidence develops, that’s the time to identify new refinements or skills and integrate them into your practice.

The key at this stage is not to get tripped up by trying to run before you can walk.

With every new skill, you return to beginner level in that part of your practice. You need to spend a bit of time in the pink and yellow quadrants. Slowing it down will help you get better quicker.

Getting comfortable with the feeling of being a beginner will help you develop. If you have a growth mindset you will be a lifelong beginner some way or another. So you might as well enjoy the process.
