My robot made me better at cleaning my house

AI will make us better at our jobs

My robot made me better at cleaning my house; I’m not sure how that works?

A couple of years ago my husband bought me a robot vacuum cleaner for my birthday! His friends at work thought that it was a risky present but it is absolutely the gift that keeps giving.

He (for his name is Robbie) keeps me on my toes though;  there’s less stuff lying around and the house is generally tidier as he needs to be able to go about his business unhindered.

So everyone is worried that AI is going to take away their job. I don’t think that's the case. I think it will make us better at our jobs, it will make us more thoughtful and we will need to be mentally agile to think about how we get the most out of our AI, whether it is radiographic, scanning and milling/ printing.

As I've said before, my CEREC machine made me a better dentist. It made me more particular about my prep design, the surface of the finished prep, the adjacent teeth position and surface. I need to do my best work in order for it to help me as the product developer intended. It's not going to do it for me. I need to give it the right information. The steps may then become more and more automated as time goes on. (Aiming for the Steve Jobs/Airbnb “three click” rule)

You could even say the same about dental materials. How many of us had read the origami folded product instructions that come with our bonding system? How much better would our bonding be if we did?

After all, these materials were developed in a lab. Working with a rubber dam in place will help bring us closer to that lab environment, so that’s the first step prior to even opening the bottle. Let's use these materials as the manufacturer intended.

So let's not worry about AI coming for our jobs, let's embrace it and make sure we are up to the task of working with it. It's not going to let us cut corners.

Have a great week
