How Being Coachable Took Us to the Top

The Most Underrated Skill for New Dentists or OHT

🦷 Struggling with rubber dam placement?
It’s not just you. Getting floss through tight contacts shouldn’t feel like a battle.

In this bite-sized mini course, I show you a simple, reliable method that actually works — and why your success starts with rethinking the first step.

Designed for dental and OHT students & new grads.

Quick. Practical. Clinically useful.

When I was (much) younger, I played rugby for a couple of seasons. I was a prop on the first women’s rugby team in Wagga Wagga.

We were full of enthusiasm—mostly because we had no idea what we were doing. We didn’t know the rules. We weren’t particularly fit. But we turned up, we were eager to learn, and we gave it everything.

There were two players who were super fit and had played before. The rest of us? Just keen.

If the coach told us to sprint up a hill, we did it.
We put in the effort.
We tried our best.
We listened.
We learned our passes and memorised our set plays.
We knew that the other teams (the male ones) in the club didn’t take us seriously.

But we were moldable.

We didn’t think we knew better.

We didn’t bring preconceived ideas to training or matches.

Our coach had been given the lowest-ranked team in the club. But by the end of the season, we were the highest-performing team—and he loved coaching us.

Why? Because we were coachable.

Being coachable is one of the most important attributes you can have as a new graduate or early-career dental professional—whether you’re a dentist or an OHT.

It will take you further than you think.
We were the only team in the club to win a championship that year.

Have a great week
