Dr Humie has it right
Being a dentist is hard
Dr Humie this week posted a video about being hot and the battle over the thermostat.
Dr Schiffenhaus, posted a story about his experience with a case at the end of a busy week, feeling hangry and frustrated.
It’s great that both of these dentists chose to highlight the struggles and challenges of being a dentist.
It helps us feel less isolated when we may be facing similar challenges.
It’s great that they share their vulnerablility; it’s essentially the same message in different packaging.
Dr Humie referenced the eternal battle over the thermostat between the active workers—the clinician expending emotional and physical energy working with patients in PPE—and the passive workers, such as reception, as well as the patients who are working hard in a way that may not elevate their internal furnace in quite the same way.
Dr Schiffenhaus referenced being hangry and frustrated and focused on his determination to manage this so that he could ensure what he did was the best for his patient.
Being a dentist is hard, I mean a lot of things are hard, it’s not like we’re being Navy Seals,…….. so cut yourself some slack and be thankful for each day
When it comes down to it, we need to ensure the environment, our mindset, our personal organisation and our body are as well prepared as possible for the work we do.
That might mean we need to do an audit of our physical space (aircon and layout), our sleep, our nutrition, and our mindset and see where we can make improvements.
As with anything there are limitations with what we can do with any of these factors and we will have to accept the limitations of some things and control the things that we can.
Are you optimised for each day?
Have a great week
Rosie
