Dentists of Instagram 2

Bonding, whisky, and guns, Dr Schiffenhaus DMD

Dr Schiffenhaus is another person who popped up during lockdowns. He did these long rambling dental Instagram lives discussing the finer points of research into dentine bonding. My immediate thoughts were “that can’t be a real name!”

The other crazy thing he did was show off his guns (not the ones on his arms at the time, although, now he does gym stories but more of that later). I’m talking real guns, oh and trips to the shooting range to show how good he is with guns. As a English/ Aussie person, this was incredible to me and I thought he was at risk of alienating some of his audience. It’s notable that the guns have not made an appearance for some time.

It made me curious though and I stuck with him. I wanted to see where he was going with this. He was talking about bonding and providing some references to work with, so that met my needs at the time.

I’m a visual learner so I appreciate his photography and have enjoyed his journey with his cerec machine and evolution of his preps (and mine) over time. His photgraphy is spot on.

Along with Bill, I feel he identifies with the general dentist trying to do their best work. We’re his target audience.

He’s more conscious of his profile and his account is a mix of posts aimed at attracting patients as well as attracting dentists to his education products. Even that is educational, as to how to promote your self to your patients in an authentic manner.

One thing that amuses me are the gym posts. I know there’s a whole marketing philosophy around showing “yourself” to your followers, but I’m not sure. Maybe its a boy thing? The improvements in his fitness in the past twelve months are admirable but I feel that this is a bit too much like doctorapa, but what do I know?

Dr Schiffenhaus has developed online courses and in person courses and shares really useful information and photographs in his account and I recommend him as a follow.

I searched for a quote about bonding and this is the best I could come up with.

“Some bonds are too deep for others to ever understand”
